Couple of historical bits and pieces are here.

Archived here is the gear section of an older site version.

With your help it could still be expanded in case you still have one or the other old product special issue of a snowboard magazine. You could scan the alpine equipment pages and keep the magazine. We have permission from Snowboarder MBM (Germany) to put such scans of their old issues online and could possibly get permission from other magazines too.

Go to freecarvers.com for newer sticks and equipment news.

Alpine snowboards go along with hardboots and plate bindings and the main categories are freecarve and race. Freecarveboards are usually wider than raceboards and therefore not only allow radical carving but riding powder too. Also freecarveboards are usually cheaper and more beginner friendly than raceboards so you can start snowboarding on them. Raceboards are perfect for racing and freecarving at high speed and offer maximum grip on icy slopes but lack all-mountain versatility and beginner friendliness as they are usually the stiffest and narrowest of all snowboards available. Advanced freecarvers choose a board with regard to the terrains they want to ride and their prefered riding styles.

Getting into carving is easier on equipment that wants to carve too.
